During the alleged robbery, they also stole a laptop, assorted mobile phones, three Somali passports, and $300, all valued at approximately Sh400,000.
The group faces a second charge of robbing Abdirahim Musa, an employee of Twahid Wholesalers in Pangani, of Sh100,000 on May 6. According to the prosecution, the suspects were armed with firearms and issued threats of violence during both incidents.
In addition, they have been charged with possession of firearms and ammunition without valid firearm certificates, contrary to Section 42(1)(a) of the Firearms Act.
Sifoli was allegedly found in possession of a Falcon pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition at his residence in Kayole, while Ongamba was found with an AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition. Clinton Wafula was allegedly found with a Parabellum FEG pistol and nine rounds of ammunition at his home during the arrest.
The suspects were arrested at their respective residences during a night operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) between May 22 and 23, when the weapons were reportedly recovered.
The three Ugandan nationals were also charged with being unlawfully present in Kenya. Ongamba and Musa pleaded guilty to this charge before Senior Principal Magistrate Joseph Karanja at the Makadara Law Courts.
However, all four suspects denied the charges of robbery with violence and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
In an affidavit opposing bail, Police Constable Richard Kalaine of the Starehe DCI told the court that the suspects had committed six robberies in Busia County as well as others in Uganda. He argued that they were flight risks likely to abscond from trial.
Defence lawyers opposed the application, stating that police had indicated where the suspects were apprehended, suggesting they were not attempting to flee.
Magistrate Karanja is expected to deliver a ruling on whether the suspects will be granted bail or bond on June 25. In the meantime, they remain in custody at the Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison in the Industrial Area.
